Summer Safety Tips For Truck Drivers

The summer offers the promise of sunshine, warm weather and fun outdoor activities. The blazing heat summer brings also has its downsides as well. Being safe during the hot summer months is important. There are special challenges that truckers face during the summer. Here are few summer safety tips for truck drivers that may help make the season a bit safer:

1. Protecting Your Skin From The Sun: The sun can cause serious damage to your skin during those long hours on the road. You may want to consider using sunscreen, clear window covers and wearing long sleeve clothing to help minimize the harmful effects of prolonged sun exposure.

2. Stay Hydrated: You can become dehydrated so quickly in hot weather. Be sure you are drinking water throughout the day. Also, keep in mind that soda and caffeine-heavy drinks can increase dehydration. Keep plenty of bottled water on hand for emergencies as well.

3. Keep Your Eyes Protected: Wearing UV protective sunglasses are important. Eyes can be damaged by the sun just like skin. The health of your eye and vision is critical to your job as a truck driver, so protect them.

4. Watch Out For Work Zones: Road construction is heavy in the summer. Be sure to plan routes and drive carefully, avoiding as much major construction as you can. The fines are also usually higher in work zones for speeding and other infractions, so make safety your top priority.

Truck drivers face so many challenges on the road. So, hopefully these summer safety tips may help to make your job a little bit safer. At USA Drivers, we always make driver safety a major priority. Contact us for all your truck driver staffing needs and check out our trucker jobs board

  1. I think the fifth point you should add is never to do drunk or binge driving. Trucking job is quite tiring and people tend to have couple of beers while driving which can be fatal for everyone on road. My brother who assist a DUI lawyer, told me couple of times how DUI can ruin everyone’s life.
